About Us

Clothing Optional is the first step to your greater connection to Nature through Naturism.

Three Mile Clothing Optional Beach

Three Mile beach is located on the east side of Okanagan Lake a few kilometers north of Penticton, BC. It has been a naturist destination for decades.

Who visits Three Mile beach?

We talk to a lot of clothed and naked people! We have found visitors to the beach come from many different countries: Spain, Germany, Brazil, Korea, Sweden, France, England, Mexico, USA and, of course, Canadians near and far.

People visit Three Mile and also explore Penticton's other attractions... tour the wineries; race dragon boats; visit car shows; go to Peachfest; search for Elvis; attend concerts and... many come just for Three Mile FREE beach itself!

People have visited Three Mile clothing optional beach to get married naked; to have a family reunion; to chase their run-away pet from the nearby dog beach while blushing furiously; to celebrate Canada Day; and to cross an item off their bucket list!

We hope you will find a reason to join us soon!

Drive, cycle, walk or bus to Three Mile beach.

SOUTH OKANAGAN

3-Mile Beach - Penticton

  • Follow Naramata Rd north of Penticton on the east side of Okanagan Lake.
  • Turn left on to Three Mile Rd just past Quidni Winery ( approx 5 km from Penticton).
  • Drive down to the Public Parking lot. There is limited parking here and further south of the parking area; the road next to the dog beach.
  • Overflow parking can be found at the junction of Naramata Rd and Poplar Grove Rd about 1/2 km before the Three Mile Rd. Total walking distance to beach from there is ~1.5 km.
  • Public transit is also available. Please follow BC Transit Link: Penticton Naramata Route 10.
  • The North Bay, Public Beach area is known for Clothing Optional. Many regular or environmental Naturist / Nudist enjoy the Public Foreshore past the east end of the Public Beach.  (Please follow beach Etiquette #1)
  • Remember the entire North Bay at Three Mile Point is "clothing optional" not "nudity mandatory"! Please keep this in mind and help make ALL 'with swimsuit' or 'without swimsuit' feel welcome

**Parking Lot Petition**

If you had no problem finding parking here, congratulations. Many have to wait for a spot or park illegally which comes with the risk of a $40 fine

Expanding the parking at 3-Mile is on the City of Penticton’s long-term capital plan. Moving it to the short-term plan would be aided by a show of support from all of us.

We have created an online petition asking the City of Penticton to expedite expansion of the 3-Mile parking lot. If you support this effort please add your name and read the details at

Intro to the book, Growing Up Without Shame...

Nudists have long endured the rantings of "experts" who think that family nakedness encourages "incest, parental abuse, over stimulation, sexual obsession, school failures, sexual deviancy, exhibitionism, homo/bisexuality, etc." But Dennis Craig Smith was unwilling to accept these opinions as fact. He began a search for the truth ten years ago that led him to naturist camps and beaches to interview and survey adults who had grown up in nudist families. He found well-adjusted people who blatantly disprove the "experts" theories.

From the book, Growing Up Without Shame by Dennis Craig Smith with Dr. William Sparks. Click here to read a summary of the book.

Public Nudity and The Law

Judges have been redefining the 80 year old laws regarding public nudity / indecency and dismissing cases where the nudity is non-sexual. Here are a few of their comments...

  • Justice Stuard... "public nudity by itself is not an indecent act. To be an offence... the unclad person must act in a base or shameful manner..." R. v. Hecker
  • Justice Carole Baird Ellan... "the actions of the accused were void of sexual content in that she did not act in a sexually provocative manner..." R. v. Sinclair
  • Justice Gould... "mere nude sunbathing is not of sufficient moral turpitude to support a charge for doing an indecent act..." R. v. Beaupré
  • Justice Coulter Osborne... found that baring her breasts was not harmful to anyone and noted, “there was nothing degrading or dehumanizing in what the appellant did. The scope of her activity was limited and was entirely non-commercial. No one who was offended was forced to continue looking at her..." R. v. Jacobs
  • Judge Eugene Lewchuk... "their behavior did not violate community standards..." R. v. Godron & Rice

The above rulings are called ‘case law’. These rulings take precedence over the literal interpretation of the criminal code. Essentially judges are modifying the law to allow public nudity so long as it is non-sexual.

It appears the attitude of judges reflects the increasing tolerance of Canadians toward public nudity. A 2013 Expedia poll found 59% of Canadians are comfortable with seeing nudity at the beach and a 2014 fcn.ca poll found 1 in 4 Canadians have been naked at the beach or plan to be in the future.

Also, each year, with the full knowledge and support of police and city councils:

  • World Naked Bike Rides throughout Canada
  • Naked Polar Bear swims countrywide
  • Official clothing optional beaches in Vancouver ( Wreck Beach ) and Toronto ( Hanlan's Point ) plus hundreds of unofficial beaches throughout Canada
  • Naked Gay Pride parades
  • Nude swim nights at public pools in Kelowna, Vancouver, Victoria, Ottawa, Edmonton, Drumheller, Toronto and many others
  • Special events such as naked bungee jumping, zip-lining, etc

And finally, Penticton city councillors are on record acknowledging the decades old traditional naturist activities at 3-Mile. The clothing optional aspect of this beach was also an official part of the City of Penticton tourism literature until recently.

Note: Women in B.C. have had the right for 10+ yrs, to be topless in any location a man can be topless publicly.
